Channel 7 has announced a star-studded commentary line-up for the 2022 AFL season, but some big names have been overlooked.

Channel 7 has announced a star-studded commentary line-up for the 2022 AFL season with Daisy Pearce continuing to emerge as Australia’s favourite footy expert.

After weeks of reports and rumours, the network on Monday confirmed its team by releasing promotional images from a photo shoot at the MCG.

The announcement confirmed Pearce’s promotion to the position as special comments analyst for Friday night, prime time games.

It comes one week after Fox Footy launched the 2022 season with Nathan Buckley’s high profile appointment and a series of new shows to feature this year.

It was reported last month Pearce had replaced Wayne Carey on Fridays — bumping Carey to Saturday games.

Seven’s Friday night broadcasts will once again be built around callers Brian Taylor, James Brayshaw, Matthew Richardson and Luke Hodge.

Pearce has singled out the Demons’ premiership defence, Essendon’s growth under coach Ben Rutten and Hawthorn’s re-build under Sam Mitchell as three of the biggest stories to play out this year.

The Network has also announced football marvel Shaun Burgoyne has joined the network and will feature in the season opener between the Demons and Bulldogs at the MCG on March 16. He will primarily feature in matches played in Adelaide as well as marquee games throughout the season.

Brisbane Lions legend Chris Johnson has also been promoted to a permanent role after guest appearances in 2021.

Burgoyne was involved in the promotional photo shoot revealed on Monday alongside the Friday night team of Hamish McLachlan, Brayshaw, Pearce Taylor, Hodge and Abbey Holmes.

Carey was awkwardly missing from the photos released to media outlets.

The Seven media release described Carey’s position as: “Arguably the greatest player of all time, the two-time North Melbourne premiership captain will deliver his keen insights and fearless opinions on Saturday Night Football”.

Seven’s announcement also revealed former West Coast star Xavier Ellis has been dropped from his role covering matches in Perth — replaced by local news presenter Ryan Daniels.

There was also no mention of former AFL stars Heath Shaw and Dale Thomas after they were involved with Seven in 2021, including in their launch of light-hearted panel show ‘The Heater and Daisy Show’.

Seven described the addition of Burgoyne as a “massive bonus for fans”.

The 407-game superhuman had his first outing as a commentator with Channel 7 during an AFLW game this weekend.

“I’m pretty excited for that opening night at the MCG,” he said. “To grow up playing football

before playing professionally my entire adult life, it’s refreshing to be able to step back into

the game in a new capacity. I can’t wait.”

Indigenous icon Eddie Betts has also joined Fox Footy as a high-profile commentator in 2022.

Betts’ joins the most popular characters in football at Fox Footy with the Foxtel network also featuring Buckley, Garry Lyon, Jonathan Brown and Nick Riewoldt in 2022.

Fox Footy’s incredible line-up for 2022 also includes: Mark Howard, Kath Loughnan, Gerard Whateley, Mark Robinson, Jordan Lewis, David King, Leigh Montagna, Jason Dunstall, Andrew Gaze, Cameron Mooney, Sharni Norder, Bernie Vince and Ben Dixon.

Meanwhile, Seven’s head of sport Lewis Martin said the network has “assembled football’s best, most talented and most experienced commentary line-up”.

Channel 7’s commentary team for 2022

Brian Taylor, James Brayshaw, Hamish McLachlan, Jason Bennett, Luke Darcy, Shaun Burgoyne, Chris Johnson, Daisy Pearce, Luke Hodge, Wayne Carey, Matthew Richardson, Jobe Watson, Erin Phillips, Leigh Matthews, Tim Watson, Cameron Ling, Jimmy Bartel, Abbey Holmes, Abbey Gelmi, Jacqui Felgate, Jude Bolton, Mark Soderstrom, Nigel Carmody and Campbell Brown.
