A Batesford home inspired by Sean Connery’s one-time Spanish manor has hit the market after a stunning makeover that honours its Mediterranean roots.
A high-spec renovation has upped the Mediterranean holiday vibe at an unusual Geelong region home inspired by the late Sean Connery’s Spanish manor.
The original owner of 21 Shepherd Rd, Batesford, based his plans for the sprawling country home on a sketch he drew of the actor’s Marbella mansion.
The four-bedroom residence’s trademark Spanish mission arches, terracotta roof tiles and cathedral ceilings have now become the heroes of a sophisticated modern-day renovation.

Vendor Belinda — who bought the 8000sq m property overlooking the Moorabool Valley in 2020 — said she set out to celebrate the home’s original character.
Imported Italian porcelain tiles, travertine basins and brass tapware are among features chosen for their European feel.
She even commissioned local tradespeople to craft a curved stone dining table and custom buffet seating to create a unique new open-plan kitchen/dining area.
The home also features an impressive bar with two wine fridges and a solid brass glass rack, two living areas with exposed timber beams and a palatial main bedroom with space for a lounge suite.
“It’s so unique, I can’t say personally that I have come across a like for like property in Geelong so it makes you appreciate that you have something special,” Belinda said.
“I think the style of the home, being renovated, in a sense it transports you to Europe and the Mediterranean.
“I have always loved Spanish mission homes and that is something we’ve always wanted to explore, to add to the original Spanish mission features but bring it up to the 21st Century.”
The house was the first built in Batesford farmland that’s since been developed into the Riverstone estate.
Belinda said the original owner selected the site for its breathtaking valley and You Yangs views when he set out to recreate Connery’s Spanish mansion.
It’s the third time the property has come up for sale, with Buxton agent Matt Plunkett setting a $2.1 million-$2.2 million price guide.
Mr Plunkett said it was an amazing lifestyle property with substantial shedding and one of the best renovations he had seen.
“It’s a certainly style but as far as quality goes it’s as it gets,” he said.
“It’s very open, it’s very bright and it’s literally walk in and nothing left to do.
“The cathedral ceiling and the kitchen is just something to die for.”
