The death toll from the suicide attack on a Shia mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan, during Friday prayers on March 4, rose to 62 on Saturday, The Nation reported. At least 194 others were injured, local paper The Frontier Post. The suspect “targeted the two police personnel stationed” at the Kucha Risaldar Mosque before opening fire on the worshippers and exploding a suicide bomb, a local police chief told The Frontier Post. Inspector-General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Moazzam Jah Ansari told The Frontier Post that “the terrorist was alone and had come to the mosque on foot.” Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported. The injured were treated at the city’s Lady Reading Hospital, where an emergency “was imposed,” according to The Frontier Post.
