NINTENDO SWITCH VS. NINTENDO SWITCH OLED
Released on October 8, 2021, the OLED model is the newest member of the Nintendo Switch family. It includes several of the most popular features from the original console, including the opportunity for three different play modes (TV-docked, tabletop, and handheld), removable Joy-Con controllers for gameplay flexibility, and an extensive catalogue of compatible games to play.
So what’s the difference between the Switch OLED and the previous Switch console? The main difference lies in the name itself. The new console features an OLED (or Organic Light Emitting Diodes) screen; which offers sharper contrast, vibrant visuals, and more efficient power consumption than the previous model’s LCD screen. The new screen is also bigger, measuring 7 inches rather than 6.2 inches, so you can find yourself even more immersed in the virtual world of your choosing.
Other new features include a built-in wired LAN port on the dock — allowing for a stable wired internet connection when in docked play mode — enhanced audio and 64GB of storage, instead of the 32GB we saw on the original Switch. Despite these additions, the Switch OLED is only a tiny bit larger and heavier than the previous model, so it’s still ideal for on the go use.
The OLED model is also available in both the original classic neon or a new, modern white version.
