Smoke was seen rising from across the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on March 18 after what the military said were a series of missiles fired by Russian forces. The Ukrainian Armed Forces said six cruise missiles were fired at the city from the Black Sea. Two were destroyed by anti-aircraft systems, the military said. Video posted by James Vasquez on March 18 showed thick black smoke rising from the area around Lviv’s airport. Vasquez told Storyful he was about one-quarter mile away from the explosion. Lviv’s mayor, Andriy Sadovy, said that an aircraft repair plant near the Lviv airport was destroyed. No one was in the building at the time and there were no casualties, he said.
