Aussie surfing fans can rejoice after a landmark announcement that more local competitions than ever before will be broadcast for free.

Australian surfing fans will be able to watch a host of local competitions under a landmark new broadcast deal.

Streaming service Kayo Sports has announced it has partnered with Surfing NSW to stream its biggest ever line-up of grassroots surfing tournaments live and free via Kayo Freebies in 2022.

The partnership will see six key Surfing NSW events added to Kayo’s unrivalled surfing offering, beginning with the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series on 24 February.

Headlined by the new Surfing NSW Challenge Her Team’s Classic which aims to build a more inclusive female surfing culture and increase participation (held across March, April and July), the other Surfing NSW tournaments streaming on Kayo Freebies include the Oz Grom Cup (April), Junior Shortboard State Titles (August), Manly Junior Teams Event (September) and the Australian Open of Surfing (across September, October and February 2023).

“Kayo is thrilled to partner with Surfing NSW to showcase some of Australia’s brightest surfing talent,” Kayo Sports CEO Julian Ogrin said.

“Now everyone can watch these community surfing events on Kayo Freebies, bringing live surfing to more Australian fans than ever before.”

Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden added: “Surfing’s debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics was a great launch pad for the sport and our homegrown athletes, and it’s only the beginning.

“Sports fans will now be able to watch our future stars on their journey to greatness and we’re so stoked Kayo is here to enhance that experience and help surfing reach more people.”

Kayo will also have the Gold Coast and Sydney Surf Pro events of the Challenger Series available to live stream in 2022, with more than 1100 hours of WSL content to be broadcast throughout the year.

Surfing fans can catch all the major WSL tournaments on Kayo so they don’t miss a moment of the action, such as Kelly Slater’s epic win at Pipeline earlier this month.

Kayo Freebies can be accessed by downloading the Kayo app or visiting www.kayosports.com.au/freebies and registering for a Freebies account.

Kayo Freebies are free, and no credit card details are required to register and start streaming.
