Channel Seven has seen a ratings boost following the leak of an off-air expletive-filled rant from Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor about tennis star Novak Djokovic.
And now two leading TV experts has revealed just why viewers so so impressed by the gaffe.
Speaking to News Corp, editor of TV Tonight, David Knox, says that the ‘authenticity’ of the two anchors shone through.

‘Australians like to know that you are ‘one of us’ (so) it could potentially work in their favour. If it’s not authentic the audience sees right through it,’ he said.
‘I don’t think Seven have anything to worry about as the two presenters come across as friends having a chat,’ TV Blackbox editor Rob McKnight added.
‘These two have shown they’re not fake and actually have a friendship – that’s not always the case in TV land’.

More viewers tuned in to 7News see if Maddern or Amor would address the leak during the Wednesday 6pm news bulletin – which they did not.
Wednesday night’s bulletin saw an increase of 40,000 viewers in comparison to Tuesday night.
The 6pm Wednesday bulletin had 301,000 viewers from across Melbourne tuning in. In comparison, Tuesday’s bulletin at 6pm had 261,000.
Seven’s 6:30pm news on that same night still retained 291,000 viewers.

The ratings still fell short to Nine news, who usually dominate the TV ratings for news in the major metro cities.
Nine news Melbourne had 322,000 viewers for their 6pm bulletin on Wednesday night.
Network sources at Seven have since accused closed-caption company Ai-Media as being primarily responsible for the leak.

In the footage, which went viral on Tuesday night, newsreader Maddern and veteran broadcaster Amor criticised Djokovic after a court ruled he would be allowed to stay in Australia.
The newsreaders’ expletive-laden rant, which appears to have taken place while preparing to present the station’s 6pm news program, included Maddern saying: ‘Whatever way you look at it, Novak Djokovic is a lying, sneaky, a***hole.’
Amor added: ‘That’s it, I mean he’s an a***hole. He got a bulls*** f*****g excuse and then fell over his own f*****g lies. It’s just what happens, right, that’s what happened.
Maddern has since apologised to her bosses for badmouthing the world number one.
