Victoria Shadow Emergency Services Minister Brad Battin says Premier Daniel Andrews needs to “start taking responsibility” for the emergency services crisis plaguing the state.
This comes amid revelations the Andrews government has spent more than $15 million reviewing the system since coming to power – but there have been 12 people pass away since October last year after calls to triple zero were not answered or picked up too late.
Mr Battin said the $15 million spent reviewing the system could have gone towards 160 new call operators.
“Imagine if we had have had those 160 on in the last six months, we wouldn’t be dealing with 12 families at the moment who are saying to the Andrews Labor government, ‘you’ve got blood on your hands, why didn’t you fix this problem?’,” he told Sky News host Chris Smith.
