Former Speaker of the House Bronwyn Bishop says petrol price increases, leading to rising inflation, will cause a great deal of “angst” in the Australian community.
Australians will spend up to an extra $12 billion on petrol this year, as global sanctions on Russia cause a surge in oil prices around the world.
“There can be many things which people say upset the community, but nothing does it quite like the cost of petrol because it impacts on everything you do,” Ms Bishop told Sky News host Gary Hardgrave.
