Comedian Dave Hughes has revealed he has a man crush on Sydney Kings basketball coach Chase Buford.
Speaking on his 2DayFM breakfast radio show with co-hosts Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan this week, Hughes confessed he had developed a liking for Buford since he took over as Kings coach this NBL season.

“Ed, you asked a question without notice yesterday,” Hughes said on Thursday.
“It went somewhere people weren’t expecting.”
In a segment on Wednesday, the trio had discussed what they would change their name to if they had the choice and Hughes got a little hot under the collar when he said he would change his name to none other than Chase Buford.
Molan: If you could change your name to something, what would it be?
Hughes: I’d be Chase.
Kavalee: Chase what?
Hughes: Chase Buford. Chase Buford is the coach of the Sydney Kings, his name is Chase Buford. He’s got his tight pants on walking around the court there.
Molan: Are you OK?
Hughes: I love Chase Buford. I love his attitude on the court and I love what he’s doing with the Sydney Kings because they are on a roll.
News of Hughes’ surprising admiration for Buford reached the Sydney Kings coach himself, who couldn’t understand why anyone would want to take his “redneck name”.
“Yeah I got the clip,” a puzzled Buford told Hughes, Ed and Erin on Thursday.
“I can’t understand why. When I got the job, Paul Smith our owner said I had a name for a NASCAR driver not a coach.
“It is a pretty redneck name so I don’t know why anyone else would want it.”
But Hughes said it wasn’t just the name but Buford’s “swagger” in the way he carries himself on the sidelines during NBL games that made him drawn to the 33-year-old American.
Speaking to Buford, Hughes gushed: “Chase, you embody the name the way you organise the team and you’ve got them playing the right way.
“We love what you’re doing with the Kings and we’re going all the way!”
Hughes has good reason to be excited about Buford, who has steered the Kings to five consecutive wins after an underwhelming start to the NBL season.
The Kings are on track to continue that streak when they take on the lowly Cairns Taipans at Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon in Round 14.
Buford’s side is currently fifth on the NBL ladder and will be looking to keep its good form going if it is to finish in the top four and qualify for finals.
