Ukrainian police said more than 10,000 civilians were safely evacuated from several embattled towns northwest of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, on Friday, March 11, with the help of emergency officials and the Red Cross. “Children, mothers, elderly people and women with disabilities are now safe,” Kyiv Region Police wrote on Facebook. Evacuation buses collected people from Bucha, Borodyanka, Andriivka, Hostomel and other towns, they said. More than 3,500 of the evacuees were transported from the town of Dymer, north of Kyiv, police said. “For a long time, children, women, men and the elderly were under fire without electricity, heating or food,” Kyiv Region Police wrote. “Now everyone is safe!” This footage first shows a convoy of buses that police said were carrying the evacuees from Dymer, and then depicts officials helping civilians at various evacuation points. Friday was third day of evacuations after so-called “green corridors” were established for safe passage from towns near Kyiv and other war-torn areas of the country including Sumy, Mariupol, and Enerhodar. More than 2.5 million Ukrainians had fled the country since Russia launched its attack on the country, the United Nations Refugee Agency said on Friday. Credit: Kyiv Region Police via Storyful
